Tomoe was walking through a dark forest. She then meets up with the Yaminobu. Tatsumi, Nakajyou and Tsumita were waiting for her. Tatsumi asked for her news. Tomoe asked him why is Enishi involved in this. To which Tatsumi replied that he couldn't let a young boy wander around looking for his sister. Then Tatsumi resumed his earlier question. What is Battousai's weak point ? Tomoe was a bit hesitant. She then thought about the time when he held his sword at her throat. She told Tatsumi little about his weakness. Obviously the answer was not enough. Or was it a lie?
Tatsumi then revealed that he had sent Tomoe not to find battousai's weakness but rather to be battousai's weakness. If Battousai was in love with her, then he would come and rescued her in their forest. Tomoe, now realizing Kenshin's life is in danger took her kodachi (dagger) out. She lunges towards Tatsumi who punches her. Tomoe took a terrible blow and was unconscious.
Kenshin received the note from the Yaminobu clan delivered secretly by Enishi. He then marches into the Kekkai forest. Snow is starting to fall again. Kenshin met up with Nakajyou, Tsumita & Yatsume in the Kekkai Forest. They were planning on attacking Kenshin. So that Tatsumi would gain an advantage over him. But after going through two explosions, Kenshin managed to beat the three of them.
He continued his journey until he met up with Tatsumi who was just about to kill Tomoe. They began to fight each other. Inside the hut, Tomoe opens her eyes. She rubs her head and started thinking about what she had just did. Tomoe saw her dagger on the floor and picked it up. She hears Kenshin and Tatsumi fighting outside. She went out and saw a shadow of Kiyosato. She rubs her eyes and then Kenshin replaced Kiyosato's image. She thought about how she couldn't stop Kiyosato from dying and she had promise to find her fiancé's killer.. only.. then ...
She had fallen in love with Kenshin, the man who murdered her fiancé. She didn't want to cause any more death. Tomoe then smiled and her eyes twinkled.
Outside, Kenshin was losing. He had lost a lot of blood from his previous fights. Tatsumi kicks him hard. Kenshin tried to attack but it was avoided. Tatsumi then decides that this was it for Kenshin. Kenshin knew he couldn't win but then made up his mind that if he was going to be dead so will Tatsumi. He'll focus all on that last blow. He silently apologized to Tomoe and hoped that Tomoe will live happily in the new era.
He closed his eyes and charges towards Tatsumi. He raises his sword and then a familiar scent filled his senses. The smell of white plum (haku baikou), Tomoe's fragrance. He opened his eyes and saw Tomoe in front of him with her dagger.
Too late to pull back, Kenshin's sword went through both Tomoe and Tatsumi. Kenshin froze. Tomoe's dagger slipped off her and it flew to make the second scar on Kenshin's left cheek. Enishi came just in time to see the whole thing.
Tomoe's dagger covered with blood lay on the ground of snow. Tears were forming in Kenshin's eyes as he cradled Tomoe in his arms. Tomoe reaches up and brushed his tears on his cheek. She smiled. Tomoe said not to cry, it's all right. She then closed her eyes, a drop of tear at the corner of her eye. Kenshin cries out her name. He pulled her lifeless body closer as tears were streaming down his cheek. How could Tomoe died ? It should be him. Tomoe. . . he thought sadly.
Two weeks later, Kenshin was still distraught at what happened. He couldn't understand it. Suddenly he saw her diary and began reading it. She wrote about her fiancé, Kiyosato who was killed in Kyoto. Kenshin thought that the name was rather familiar. Then Kenshin realized that he was the one who killed Kiyosato. He remembers when Kiyosato gave Kenshin his first scar. Before Kenshin finishes him off, Kiyosato was crying out about his fiancé whom he was about to marry, "To..."
Tomoe ! Then it hits Kenshin. He was the one who stole Tomoe's happiness from her. A scar, a remembrance for the people who suffered when he kills.
